Srinagar, July 30, 2025:The Meteorological Department (MeT) on Tuesday issued a three-day weather alert for Jammu and Kashmir, warning of heavy rainfall, potential flash floods, and landslide risks in several parts of the Union Territory.
According to the MeT advisory, moderate to heavy showers are expected from July 30 to August 1, particularly in the Chenab Valley, Pir Panjal region, south Kashmir, and parts of central and north Kashmir. The department has urged the public, especially those living in low-lying and flood-prone areas, to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
“Widespread rainfall activity is likely to intensify in the next 24 hours. There is a risk of flash floods, waterlogging, and landslides in hilly terrain. Travelers and tourists are advised to follow traffic advisories and avoid unnecessary movement during peak rainfall hours,” the MeT Centre in Srinagar stated.
Authorities in district administrations, disaster management teams, and state emergency services have been put on high alert to respond to any eventualities. Local officials have been directed to monitor river and stream levels closely and ensure readiness of relief and evacuation teams.
The Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) has activated its emergency control rooms in vulnerable districts and is coordinating with the police, civil defense, and SDRF for any rescue efforts.
The alert comes amid an active southwest monsoon spell that has already caused above-normal rainfall in parts of north India. Meteorologists say localized cloudbursts and sudden downpours are likely during this period, especially in mountainous regions.
Residents are advised to stay updated via official weather bulletins, avoid venturing near riverbanks, and secure essential belongings.
