Jammu ,July 30, 2025- Heavy rainfall across Jammu on Tuesday night led to a significant surge in the Tawi River’s water level, which rose sharply to 10 feet, prompting authorities to issue an alert and closely monitor the situation.
The continuous monsoon downpour caused widespread waterlogging in several low-lying areas of the city, disrupting traffic and normal life. Irrigation and Flood Control Department officials reported that while the current water level remains below the danger mark, further rainfall could pose flood risks in downstream areas.
Local administration teams, including State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel, have been deployed in vulnerable zones along the riverbanks as a precautionary measure. Citizens have been advised to stay away from the river and avoid venturing into waterlogged areas.
A senior official from the Meteorological Department said that more moderate to heavy rainfall is expected over the next 24 to 48 hours in the Jammu region, potentially leading to further rising water levels in rivers and streams.
The Tawi River, which flows through the heart of Jammu city, often becomes volatile during intense monsoon activity, and the latest surge has once again highlighted the need for improved drainage, early warning systems, and disaster preparedness.
Authorities remain on high alert as weather conditions continue to be unpredictable, urging residents to follow safety advisories issued by local officials.
