Srinagar, July 25, 2025 – In an unannounced move aimed at assessing real-time conditions, Health Minister Sakina Itoo paid a surprise visit to the SMHS Hospital in Srinagar on Thursday. The minister undertook a thorough inspection of the hospital’s infrastructure, staff readiness, and overall patient care services.
Accompanied by senior officials from the Health and Medical Education Department, Minister Itoo interacted directly with patients and attendants to gather feedback on the availability of services, medical equipment, and hygiene conditions.
“Our aim is to ensure quality healthcare delivery across all government hospitals,” said Minister Sakina Itoo, stressing the importance of accountability and real-time responsiveness in public health institutions.

Administrative Action & Directives
Following the visit, Minister Itoo directed the hospital administration to submit a compliance report within 48 hours. She also instructed that a grievance redressal mechanism be strengthened to ensure that patient complaints are addressed promptly.
“Patient welfare is our top priority. Surprise inspections will continue to ensure that hospitals remain functional, efficient, and patient-friendly,” she added.

The government is reportedly working on digitising patient records, upgrading hospital infrastructure, and improving emergency response systems in tertiary care centers like SMHS.
