Srinagar, June 16, 2025 – Jammu and Kashmir Health Minister Sakeena Itoo announced on June 16, 2025, that comprehensive medical facilities have been put in place to ensure the safety and well-being of pilgrims undertaking the annual Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to commence later this month. Addressing concerns about healthcare preparedness, Itoo emphasized that there is no shortage of doctors or medical resources, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to a smooth and secure pilgrimage.
Over 150 medical camps, staffed by specialist doctors, paramedics, and volunteers, have been established along the Pahalgam and Baltal routes, equipped with oxygen cylinders, emergency medicines, and advanced diagnostic tools. Additionally, 24×7 ambulance services and critical care units are positioned at strategic points to handle high-altitude illnesses and other emergencies.
Sakeena Itoo stated, “We have ensured robust medical facilities to safeguard the health of all pilgrims. Our teams are fully prepared to provide timely assistance, and no effort has been spared in addressing potential challenges.” The Health Department has also coordinated with the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps, which has set up Medical Aid Posts at locations like Domel, Bararimarg, and Neelgrar to offer immediate care, as noted in past arrangements.
This year’s preparations come in the wake of the April 2025 Pahalgam attack, which heightened focus on pilgrim safety. The administration has integrated lessons from previous Yatras, increasing the deployment of healthcare professionals and upgrading facilities at Lakhanpur, transformed into a multi-facility hub for pilgrims. The Jammu and Kashmir government is also leveraging telemedicine services to provide remote consultations, ensuring accessibility in challenging terrains.
The Amarnath Yatra, a significant religious event drawing thousands annually, is expected to see robust participation, supported by these enhanced medical arrangements. Itoo’s proactive measures aim to instill confidence among pilgrims, complementing efforts to revive tourism and economic activity in the region.
