Kupwara, November 25,2025: Women in Thandipora Dardpora, Kupwara, are turning an age-old cultural practice into a powerful tool for empowerment. By producing Nishta, a traditional herbal remedy long trusted for pregnancy care, post-natal healing, and back pain relief, these women are not only preserving heritage but also generating sustainable livelihoods.
Supported by the Jammu & Kashmir National Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKNRLM), the women’s Self-Help Groups have received training in product refinement, packaging, branding, and market linkage. What once existed as a household remedy has now grown into a community-driven micro-enterprise, helping women achieve financial independence, self-reliance, and economic empowerment.
Locals say the revival of Nishta has created new opportunities in the region, especially for homemakers and widows. The initiative is also strengthening community bonds, inspiring more women to explore traditional crafts and organic wellness products.
The JKNRLM facilitators noted that the success of the Nishta enterprise highlights how rural entrepreneurship, women empowerment, cultural preservation, and local economic development can go hand in hand.
