Gulmarg, January 30,2026 -Gulmarg recently hosted its first-ever 5km SnowShoe race, attracting around 100 athletes from across Kashmir to compete in challenging winter conditions. The event marks a significant step in promoting SnowShoe running as a winter sport in the Valley.
Participants navigated the snowy terrain of Gulmarg, testing endurance and agility, while showcasing the region’s potential as a hub for adventure and winter sports. Organizers highlighted that the event aims to encourage local youth to take up snow sports, strengthen tourism opportunities, and position Gulmarg as a premier winter sports destination in India.
Officials and sports enthusiasts praised the event for combining athletic competition with promotion of winter tourism, reflecting Jammu & Kashmir’s growing focus on diversifying adventure sports offerings beyond traditional skiing.
