Gulmarg, November 20,2025: The Cooperative Department of Jammu & Kashmir today organised the Divisional-Level event of the 72nd All India Cooperative Week in Gulmarg, bringing together cooperative leaders, officers, and stakeholders from across the Union Territory.
The event was held under the theme “Cooperatives as Vehicles for Atmanirbhar Bharat” and was presided over by Commissioner Secretary, Cooperative Department, Babila Rakwal, who attended as the Chief Guest.
Senior officials including Registrar, Cooperative Societies J&K, Mohammad Shafi Chak; Special Secretary Cooperative Department; Joint Registrar Audit Kashmir; CEO Gulmarg Development Authority; Deputy Registrars from all districts of Kashmir Division, and other officers participated in the programme.
In her address, the Commissioner Secretary highlighted the government’s renewed focus on strengthening the cooperative ecosystem through structural reforms, digital transformation, and capacity-building initiatives. She emphasised progress made in Food Processing Units (FPUs), Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), and the revival of Super Bazars, while underscoring the growing importance of District Level Federations in enhancing institutional support.
Encouraging diversification, she urged Cooperative Societies to explore emerging areas such as food processing, agri-value chains, rural enterprises, and to ensure increased youth and women participation for long-term sustainability and growth.
The Joint Registrar Audit Kashmir also spoke on the crucial role cooperatives play in boosting livelihoods and driving community-based development across J&K.
An exhibition showcasing stalls by various Cooperative Societies was also organised on the occasion, reflecting the sector’s expanding contribution to local economies.
