Kashmir, February 12,2026-Jammu and Kashmir is making strides towards sustainable public transport with the launch of a Green Mobility Drive aimed at introducing a modern electric bus fleet across the Union Territory. The initiative focuses on enhancing charging infrastructure, promoting eco-friendly commuting, and reducing the region’s carbon footprint.
Officials stated that the administration is developing dedicated charging stations, upgrading bus depots, and ensuring the integration of electric buses into existing public transport networks. The project aligns with India’s broader goals of sustainable urban mobility and supports J&K’s commitment to clean energy adoption.
“The introduction of electric buses is a step forward in reducing pollution, modernizing transport facilities, and offering commuters an efficient and environmentally friendly alternative,” said a senior government official.
The Green Mobility Drive also includes training programs for drivers and maintenance staff to handle electric vehicles efficiently. By adopting electric mobility solutions, J&K is positioning itself as a model for sustainable transport in hilly and environmentally sensitive regions.
The initiative is expected to create job opportunities in green transport management while fostering awareness about environmental sustainability among citizens.
