Kashmir, Feburary 13,2026- In a major push towards sustainable urban mobility, the cities of Jammu and Srinagar are set to receive 200 electric buses under the Government of India’s PM eBus Sewa initiative. The move aims to promote eco-friendly, efficient, and modern public transportation systems across urban centres.
Officials said the deployment of electric buses will significantly reduce carbon emissions, ease traffic congestion, and improve the overall commuting experience for residents and visitors alike. The initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen green mobility infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.
Focus on Eco-Friendly Public Transport
The introduction of electric buses is expected to replace older diesel-run vehicles, cutting down air pollution and fuel costs. Authorities have emphasized that the project aligns with India’s clean energy goals and sustainable development targets.
Charging infrastructure, bus depots, and route planning are being upgraded to ensure smooth implementation. Dedicated charging stations and modern maintenance facilities are also being set up to support the new fleet.
Infrastructure Readiness and Urban Development
Urban transport officials stated that groundwork related to power supply, charging points, and depot modernization is already underway. The initiative will also generate employment opportunities in operations, maintenance, and allied services.
The scheme is expected to enhance last-mile connectivity, improve reliability of public transport, and encourage more people to shift from private vehicles to environmentally friendly alternatives.
With Jammu and Srinagar witnessing steady urban growth, the induction of 200 electric buses marks a significant step toward building a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable transport network in the region.
