Srinagar, February 19,2026-: The Government has proposed four new railway lines for the Kashmir Valley, with preliminary surveys currently underway to assess feasibility, alignment, and infrastructure requirements. The move is aimed at strengthening rail connectivity, boosting economic growth, and improving transportation facilities across the region.
According to official sources, the proposed projects are part of a broader expansion plan of Indian Railways to enhance connectivity in strategically and economically important areas.
Expanding Rail Connectivity
The new rail corridors are expected to connect remote and underserved areas of the Valley, improving access for passengers and facilitating smoother movement of goods. Authorities stated that survey teams are examining terrain conditions, environmental considerations, and cost implications before finalizing alignments.
The expansion is likely to complement the existing rail network in Jammu & Kashmir, including the operational Banihal–Baramulla section, which has significantly improved intra-Valley connectivity over the years.
