Doda, November 5,2025:In a major medical breakthrough, the Government Medical College Doda has successfully performed its first thrombolysis treatment on a stroke patient, a life-saving procedure that was previously available only in Srinagar.
According to Dr. Govinder Kumar, the attending physician, the patient was administered treatment within the crucial four-hour window, resulting in complete recovery without any permanent disability. He commended the medical team’s swift response and coordination, which ensured the success of this critical emergency intervention.
“Time is brain — every minute counts when it comes to stroke. Early recognition of symptoms and immediate hospital care can save lives and prevent long-term disability,” said Dr. Kumar, urging people to seek prompt medical help if they experience sudden weakness, facial drooping, speech difficulty, or loss of coordination.
The thrombolysis procedure, which involves the use of clot-dissolving medication to restore blood flow to the brain, represents a significant advancement in emergency stroke management for the Chenab Valley region. This success marks a new chapter for GMC Doda, enabling residents of remote areas to access advanced neurological care locally, without the need to travel to Srinagar.
Hospital authorities hailed the achievement as a milestone in strengthening healthcare infrastructure and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding critical care services across Jammu and Kashmir.
