Doda, February 12,2026- In a historic first for Jammu and Kashmir, girls participated in a men’s T-20 cricket tournament organized by the Indian Army at the Doda Sports Stadium. A mixed team comprising three girls and eight boys, captained by Mehak, made a strong impression by defeating Fouji Eleven by 136 runs.
The tournament, featuring around 50 teams, is part of the Indian Army’s ongoing initiatives to promote sports and youth engagement in the region. By allowing boys and girls to play together, the Army aims to foster gender inclusivity and provide young athletes with exposure to competitive cricket.
Speaking about the event, officials emphasized that the participation of girls in a traditionally men’s tournament reflects changing attitudes towards women in sports and highlights the growing opportunities for female athletes in Jammu and Kashmir. Local spectators and participants praised the initiative for encouraging teamwork, confidence, and skill development among young cricketers.
The mixed team’s victory under Mehak’s captaincy has inspired many girls in the region to take up cricket, signaling a positive shift towards equal participation in sports. The Indian Army continues to support youth talent through structured tournaments and training programs, contributing to both community engagement and the development of sports culture in the region.
