Srinagar, October 2, 2025: A 10-day Gandhi Shilp Bazaar was inaugurated today at Kashmir Haat, spotlighting the rich heritage of Kashmir handicrafts and handloom products. The event, organized by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, was graced by Mussarat Islam, Director, Handicrafts and Handloom, Kashmir, alongside Rafiq Ahmad, Assistant Director, Handicrafts, Ministry of Textiles, Manager Central Market, and other senior officials.The bazaar features 70 stalls where artisans and weavers are showcasing an array of exclusive Kashmiri handicrafts, including Sozni embroidery on Pashmina, Kani shawls, Crewel embroidery, Chain stitch, and Aari work. These stalls provide a platform for artisans to directly connect with buyers, promoting authentic handmade products at affordable prices.In his address, Director Mussarat Islam urged the public to visit Kashmir Haat in large numbers to support the artisans by purchasing their handmade products. “By buying directly from the artisans, you contribute to safeguarding the interests of this vibrant community,” he said.
He also engaged with stallholders, advising them to enhance their packaging to elevate the aesthetic appeal of their unique Kashmiri crafts. The Director reaffirmed the department’s commitment to implementing welfare schemes for artisans and providing consistent platforms for the display and sale of their products. The Gandhi Shilp Bazaar promises to be a vibrant celebration of Kashmir’s cultural heritage, offering visitors an opportunity to explore and purchase authentic handicrafts while supporting the region’s skilled artisans.
