GANDERBAL, April 17, 2025 – The District Administration Ganderbal launched a dynamic Information, Education, and Communication campaign against drug abuse in educational institutions on April 16, 2025, as part of the Nasha Mukt J&K initiative. Aimed at shielding young minds from the perils of substance abuse, the campaign delivered powerful awareness sessions across schools and colleges to highlight the devastating effects of drugs and promote a drug-free future.
Organized under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, the initiative featured engaging workshops, rallies, and expert talks at institutions like Boys Higher Secondary School , Ganderbal. Deputy Commissioner Jatin Kishore, leading the effort, stressed the urgency of protecting youth, stating, “Drug abuse is a silent threat to our society. By empowering students with knowledge, we’re building a resilient, drug-free Ganderbal.” The sessions drew enthusiastic participation from students, educators, and local officials.
Health experts and NCORD Cell coordinators addressed students, detailing the physical, mental, and social toll of addiction while guiding them on early warning signs and support options. Additional Deputy Commissioner Syed Faheem Bihaqi called on teachers and parents to monitor behavioral shifts in students, emphasizing, “Awareness and early action can save lives.” Creative activities like skits, poster-making, and pledge ceremonies energized the campaign, with students vowing to champion the anti-drug cause.
The administration promoted access to the national de-addiction helpline (14446) and Ganderbal’s Addiction Treatment Facilities , which are being bolstered under the NCORD framework. The campaign builds on a district-wide IEC kickoff on April 4, 2025, and aligns with Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo’s directive for a five-month, 6,776-event anti-drug drive across J&K, supported by 5,923 trained resource persons.
Ganderbal’s focus on schools underscores the need to engage youth as catalysts for change. The initiative reflects a broader commitment to rehabilitation, community action, and education to eradicate the drug menace.
