Srinagar, 15 September 2025: A delegation of the Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Cum Dealers Union, led by its Chairman Bashir Ahmad Basheer, called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and conveyed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the LG for launching the dedicated parcel train service from Budgam to New Delhi.
The delegation highlighted that the new service will significantly benefit the horticulture sector by ensuring faster transportation of apples and other fruits to major markets across the country. They said the Budgam–Delhi parcel train will help reduce transit time, cut freight costs, and ensure that Kashmiri produce reaches consumers in a fresher state, thereby enhancing profits for growers and traders.
Chairman Bashir Ahmad Basheer expressed optimism that this facility would strengthen the agricultural economy of Jammu and Kashmir, create new opportunities for farmers, and boost the Union Territory’s position as a major fruit supplier in India.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha assured the delegation of the government’s continued support to the horticulture and agriculture sectors, reiterating that farmers remain at the core of J&K’s economic growth strategy.
