From vision to reality: Rajouri gets ₹20.75 crore boost under PM-USHA

Rajouri, April 22, 2026-In a significant step towards strengthening higher education infrastructure in the region, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) has received a major financial boost of ₹20.75 crore under the Central Government’s PM-USHA scheme.

The funding aims to upgrade essential facilities at the university, with key projects including the construction of a modern indoor stadium and a dedicated nursing hostel. These developments are expected to significantly enhance both academic and extracurricular opportunities for students, while also improving residential infrastructure for those pursuing healthcare education.

Officials said the initiative reflects the government’s continued focus on expanding quality higher education in underserved and border regions like Rajouri. The indoor stadium will promote sports culture and physical well-being among students, while the nursing hostel will support the growing demand for trained healthcare professionals by providing safe and adequate accommodation.

The investment under PM-USHA is part of a broader effort to modernize educational institutions across India, ensuring better access, equity, and excellence in higher education. For BGSBU, this marks a transformative phase as it moves towards becoming a more comprehensive and student-friendly campus.

The development is also expected to generate local employment during the construction phase and contribute to the socio-economic growth of the Rajouri district.
