From Darkness to Dignity: Kashmir Family of Slain Man Thanks LG Sinha for Long-Awaited Justice My father died in 2002 when militants killed him. I was in class 1. We had to work very hard. My mother had to make do with the meagre salary of Rs 1500. We were very small at that time. Nobody came forward to our assistance. Forget about asking, no one came, not even our relatives came. This is a great thing that Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Saheb has done, said Shahnawaz Ahmed from Anantnag, Jammu & Kashmir talking about appointment letters on compassionate grounds to terrorist victim’s family member. Even if there had been a Muslim leader, he would not have done this. Being a non-Muslim he thought about us. He took a genuine decision. My father prepared the horses for the Amarnath journey and carried the goods. He was captured by the militants and killed. Since then we had to struggle a lot. For 15-20 years our struggle continued. I am doing photography. We get by somehow, he said. No one came in the past 25 years. Who looks at the poor? People come at the time of voting and then go away. They built their own houses. Today, LG Saheb took this step, this is a very good step. His younger brother Abid Ahmed Dar was just six months when his father got killed. Abid Ahmed used to watch since childhood how his mother struggled everyday, going out to fend for their living, giving them education. She had to face a lot of difficulties but she taught us, said Abid Ahmed Dar. Today, I am 12th pass because of her. I am very happy that LG Saheb has taken this decision to give jobs to the victims. Those who have gone through such times will get a lot of support. My mother will also get a lot of support, said Abir Ahmed Dar. My brothers will get support and I myself will get support. I would like to thank LG Saheb for taking this step. His mother said she was grateful to LG Sir. No one ever spoke about the SRO Case but LG Sir fulfilled the long awaited hope of giving job to family of 2002 terror victim. I wll always pray for LG Sir, said the terror victim’s wife.
