Srinagar, December 1,2025 — The upper reaches of the region, including the strategic Zojila Pass, witnessed fresh snowfall on Tuesday as freezing temperatures tightened their grip across the Kashmir Valley. The renewed spell of snow led to picturesque landscapes but also added to the winter chill already being felt by residents.
The snowfall at Zojila, a crucial link between Kashmir and Ladakh, resulted in slippery road conditions, prompting authorities to advise travellers to exercise caution. Light to moderate snow was also reported in adjoining high-altitude areas.
Meanwhile, the plains of the Valley continued to experience sub-zero night temperatures, contributing to frost formation on vehicles, rooftops and open fields. Early morning visibility dipped in several areas due to mist and fog.
Meteorological officials said the snowfall was triggered by a fresh Western Disturbance, and more cold conditions are expected in the coming days. They added that higher reaches may continue to receive intermittent snowfall, while the plains will remain cold and dry.
Residents have begun relying more heavily on traditional heating methods as the winter chill intensifies across the region.
