Srinagar, August 5,2026- Authorities on Wednesday suspended the movement of fresh Shri Amarnath Yatra convoys from Jammu to Baltal, along with return convoys from Baltal to Jammu, as a precautionary security measure. Officials clarified that the decision was taken purely as a preventive step to ensure the safety and security of pilgrims undertaking the annual pilgrimage.

Despite the temporary suspension of convoy movement, the Shri Amarnath Yatra continued without interruption for pilgrims who had already reached the Baltal Base Camp. These pilgrims were permitted to proceed to the holy cave shrine for darshan under enhanced security arrangements.

Officials said the overall situation in the region remains peaceful, and there has been no disruption to the pilgrimage for those already present at the base camp. Security agencies have intensified surveillance and deployed additional personnel along the Yatra route as part of precautionary measures to ensure the safety of devotees.

The administration emphasised that the suspension applies only to fresh convoys travelling from Jammu to Baltal and return convoys heading back to Jammu, while pilgrims already stationed at Baltal continue their journey according to schedule.

Authorities are closely monitoring the security situation and will review convoy movement based on the prevailing conditions. Pilgrims have been advised to follow official advisories and remain in contact with Yatra authorities for the latest updates regarding travel arrangements.

The annual Shri Amarnath Yatra is one of India’s most significant religious pilgrimages, attracting thousands of devotees from across the country every year. Extensive security arrangements are implemented throughout the pilgrimage to ensure the safe movement of pilgrims along both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes.

Officials reiterated that all necessary measures are being taken to facilitate a safe and smooth pilgrimage while maintaining heightened vigilance. They urged devotees not to pay attention to rumours and to rely only on official information issued by the administration and security agencies regarding the Yatra.
