Free Soil Testing in J&K Helps Farmers Improve Fertility and Crop Yield. The main purpose of the soil testing lab in Jammu & Kashmir is to test the soil of the farmer’s field. Mostly farmers are using chemical fertilisers which is harming the soil. Even if you put less fertilizer, there is a loss and even if you put more fertilizer than required, there is a loss, informed a Soil Testing Laboratory official. Soil testing is the only process which tells a farmer how much nutrients are there in the soil. We test the soil for free for farmers and at the moment we are testing 12 soil nutrients. We advise them about crop specific dose. The soil testing helps in saving their land. If you put more chemicals, the micro organisms die. The soil which has less micro organisms will be less fertile. This can be a loss to farmers as the crop production may reduce. So we have to save our land for our coming generation. We can save our land through soil testing which is being done for free in J&K. Through Kashmir Ahead channel, we request J&K farmers to get free of cost soil testing at least once in three years, said a soil testing official in Jammu & Kashmir.
