Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha honoured members of Langar organisations and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) for their remarkable contributions during the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2024. The ceremony, held at the Resident Commission’s office in New Delhi, celebrated the selfless service provided by these groups who ensured the welfare of pilgrims, offering free meals, langar (community kitchen) services, and essential support throughout the sacred pilgrimage. In his address, the Lieutenant Governor expressed deep gratitude to the individuals and organisations that played a pivotal role in the successful and smooth conduct of the Yatra. He lauded the efforts of the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board, government departments, J&K Police, security forces, voluntary organisations, and civil society groups for their collective contribution to ensuring a safe and spiritual experience for the devotees. Highlighting the importance of selfless service, LG Sinha said, “The individuals and organisations we recognise today are true contributors to the tradition of selfless service.” He reaffirmed the Shrine Board’s commitment to enhancing the pilgrimage experience, with infrastructural improvements such as widened roads, upgraded facilities, and the addition of services like cloakrooms at the Holy Cave. A total of 122 Langars along both yatra routes served free food and prasad to pilgrims. The langars, distributed across the Baltal, Pahalgam, Sangam, and Holy Cave areas, included additional services such as free fodder for animals, battery car services, and safety helmets for yatris in vulnerable spots. The efforts of social organisations ensured the safety and well-being of pilgrims, with strict safety protocols and the operationalisation of a disaster preparedness plan. The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted the successful decongestion measures at the Holy Cave and Lower Holy Cave, ensuring that langar services were conducted in safer, designated zones, and that only authorised personnel with valid RFID cards had access to the yatra areas. The Lieutenant Governor encouraged all langar organisations and volunteers to continue providing exemplary service to pilgrims, reaffirming the collective responsibility to uphold the spiritual heritage of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
