Baramulla, July 28 — As part of the national drive to improve foundational learning, the Baseline Kickstart exercise under the NIPUN Bharat Mission is actively underway across the education zones of Chandoosa and Wagoora in Baramulla district. The initiative focuses on strengthening Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) skills among early-grade students in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat.
Led by dedicated teacher mentors and supported by the Pratham Education Foundation, the teams are visiting schools to conduct one-on-one assessments, review classroom practices, and cross-check learning levels in Classes 1 to 3.
“This isn’t just about testing students; it’s about understanding where they are, and how we can better support their learning journeys,” said a mentor teacher from Chandoosa.
Children were seen enthusiastically participating in simple reading and numeracy tasks, while teachers engaged in dialogue with the assessment teams to explore ways to bridge learning gaps.

The exercise is aligned with Dharti Aabha Janjatiya goals as well, ensuring inclusive education for children in tribal and remote areas. Schools in tribal belts of Wagoora have shown active participation, highlighting the growing commitment to quality education in underserved communities.
“We are proud to be part of this foundational movement. With better understanding of learning gaps, we can now teach more effectively,” said a teacher from a government school in Wagoora.
The ongoing baseline assessment will help create tailored classroom strategies, ultimately leading to improved learning outcomes and stronger foundational years—essential pillars for a Viksit Bharat @2047.
