Katra, September 10 ,2025: In a historic development, the Indian Railways has introduced the first-ever local train service from Katra to Sangaldan, offering a vital lifeline to passengers stranded due to incessant rains, flash floods, and landslides in Reasi and Ramban districts.
With road connectivity severely disrupted, this five-coach train is ensuring safe and reliable transport for both local residents and Vaishno Devi pilgrims, many of whom were left stranded. The initiative has been widely hailed as a people-centric approach by the Government, prioritising public convenience during natural calamities.
Officials stated that the train will continue to operate as long as roadblocks persist, ensuring uninterrupted movement of essential goods and passengers. Locals expressed gratitude, highlighting how this rail service has emerged as a lifesaver for the flood-affected population and a significant support for religious tourism in Jammu & Kashmir.
The launch of this emergency rail service also underscores the Government’s commitment to enhancing transport connectivity, disaster preparedness, and tourism infrastructure in the region.
