Srinagar, November 4,2025: In a major boost to Kashmir’s film and tourism industry, shooting has officially resumed in the Valley for the first time since the tragic Pahalgam attack on April 22, 2025. A South Indian film crew has begun filming at scenic locations, marking a symbolic and hopeful revival of cinematic activity in the region.
Following the attack, several film productions had cancelled or postponed their schedules due to security concerns. The resumption of shooting now signals a return of confidence among filmmakers and industry professionals.
Omer, also known as Sk Sam, Casting Director at Casting Kashmir, expressed optimism about the development. “After the Pahalgam attack, most film crews had cancelled their shooting schedules in Kashmir. Now, as we begin this new project here, we hope more film crews will return to shoot in the Valley,” he said.
The film’s director and lead actors, who are currently occupied with the shoot, shared that while there were initial apprehensions about filming in Kashmir, their experience on arrival dispelled all fears. “Once we arrived, we found the place to be safe. The people are very cooperative, the security arrangements are good, and we were able to work freely in a positive atmosphere,” they told Greater Kashmir.
The crew’s decision to proceed with filming reflects the growing efforts of the Jammu and Kashmir administration to restore confidence among filmmakers and project the Valley as a safe, scenic, and film-friendly destination. The government’s renewed focus on promoting the region’s natural beauty through cinema has already drawn attention from national and international production houses.
Film industry observers believe this project could pave the way for more productions to return to Kashmir, thereby reviving local employment opportunities, boosting tourism, and strengthening the Valley’s cultural economy.
In recent years, the Kashmir Film Policy introduced by the Union Territory administration has simplified procedures for filmmakers, offering single-window clearance and attractive incentives. The renewed activity after months of silence is being viewed as a strong signal of resilience and recovery.
As cameras roll once again amidst snow-clad peaks and serene meadows, the scene in Kashmir is one of hope — a reflection of the Valley’s enduring spirit and its timeless connection with Indian cinema.
