Encounter in Handwara: One terrorist killed, policeman injured in ongoing operation

Handwara I March 17, 2025- A terrorist was killed and a policeman injured during an encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Krumhoora-Zachaldara area of Handwara, located in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kashmir Valley, on Monday. The operation, which remains underway, began when security forces launched a cordon and search effort in the Krumbhoora area of Zachaldara, Handwara District. The Jammu and Kashmir police are assisting in the ongoing operation.

The clash broke out earlier today, with security forces engaging the terrorists in a firefight. One terrorist was neutralised, while a policeman sustained injuries during the exchange. Details about the identity of the terrorist or the condition of the injured officer have not yet been disclosed.

Jammu and Kashmir Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma commended the security forces’ efforts, expressing confidence in their resolve. Speaking to ANI, Sharma said, “Security forces are doing their job; our security forces will take a breath only after burying the remaining terrorists.” He emphasised that the forces are determined to eliminate the terrorist threat in the region swiftly.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary addressed the broader context of the incident, reaffirming the region’s resilience. Speaking to reporters, he stated, “The situation should be kept peaceful. Whoever is behind these conspiracies, their conspiracies to weaken India and Jammu and Kashmir will never succeed. The brotherhood of Jammu and Kashmir is strong, and if anyone does anything against the country, it will not be tolerated.” Choudhary’s remarks underscored a call for unity and a stern warning against anti-national activities.
