Empowering Artisans: DC Baramulla Supports Handloom & Handicraft Revival at UMEED Exhibition This exhibition is under JKRLM UMEED. It is a good platform. The existence of a large number of people and women in Jammu & Kashmir are dependent on handicrafts and handlooms. There is a need to create more opportunities here, said a woman associated with handicrafts to DC Baramulla Sh. Minga Sherpa (IAS) Deputy Commissioner. It is a source of work for many people. DC Baramulla Minga Sherpa said it was a high profile area. A lot of tourists and locals come here. We hope that our artisans and Self Help Groups do good sales and see economic upliftment and tourists are also able to prefer buying products from Baramulla region. The Baramulla handmade carpets are in high demand in international markets, said the DC. The carpets are now GI tagged with QR codes. The QR codes can be scanned to find out whether it is genuine handmade carpets. Not only that but information about the artisan and how many knots are there in the carpet can also be found out. In the coming times, DC Baramulla said, we will try to provide carpet weaving training in District Baramulla so that this industry gets a boost.
