Education Must Prepare Students for Real World, New Professions: LG Manoj Sinha at SMVDU Convocation On the occasion of the 11th Convocation of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, I extend my heartiest congratulations and best wishes to all the award winners and graduating students present here, said the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha. I congratulate their parents too, he added. The journey of education should be such that it can introduce students to the real world outside the campus. And also give them the courage to face future challenges and difficulties, LG spoke. An environment is necessary for such a source of knowledge and I believe that is what we can see at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University. This university has a special place in the entire nation. With the blessings of Mata Vaishno Devi, this university and the entire region are seen emerging as a major centre of human welfare and all-round development. And hence, I believe that this is one of the few universities in the country for which, along with modern higher education, service to humanity is also a major priority, LG said. I was looking at the statistics, today among the medal winners there are 7 boys and 18 girls. Our girls are winning more than twice the number of medals than our girls. The number of daughters winning medals is more than double that of sons, the Lieutenant Governor observed. He shared that the Infosys Foundation Prize for Excellence has been awarded to four male and six female students. Today, such a ratio is visible in almost every higher education institution of Jammu and Kashmir. And our girls are setting new records with their academic performance, LG stated. I truly appreciate their dedication and hard work. Today, universities also have an opportunity to prepare students who can prepare themselves for new professions instead of old ones. And if a student of any higher education institution is sitting idle or is searching for work that was prevalent 20 or 30 years ago, then it is clear today that the educational institutions and their faculty members have probably not done their work with honesty. And they somehow failed in their duties, LG stated. Dear friends, the skills and knowledge you have acquired at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University is not just a collection of information on various subjects, along with that knowledge, you have also received education in values so that you can become courageous and fearless, become aware of your responsibilities and contribute to the development of the nation as well as the welfare of the society, LG said motivating the graduating students. All the young students present at the convocation today should inculcate a sense of self-discipline in all aspects of life. I want to congratulate all the students who have achieved this very important degree today. Naturally, you should be proud of this achievement, but from today onwards, your real journey begins, LG added. When you step out of here today, step into the professional world with the curiosity and desire to keep learning throughout your life. The world is changing very rapidly and the people who will succeed will be those who constantly ask questions and always seek answers. Explore new paths in your journey. Embrace challenges. Develop relationships based on compassion, honesty, and ethical values. Remember this, the future will not come, but you have to create the future, LG said, encouraging the students and congratulating them once again.
