Srinagar, May 8,2026- Mild earthquake tremors were felt in several parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, with the epicentre reported in the Kishtwar district of the Chenab Valley region.
According to officials, the earthquake caused brief panic among residents as people rushed out of their homes and offices after feeling the tremors. However, no reports of any loss of life or damage to property were received immediately.
Authorities said the epicentre of the quake was located in Kishtwar district, an area that falls within a seismically active zone. Disaster management teams and local officials are monitoring the situation.
Jammu and Kashmir frequently experiences seismic activity due to its location in the Himalayan belt, which is considered highly prone to earthquakes.
