Dy CM Surinder Choudhary reviews labour dept, reaffirms J&K govt’s focus on entrepreneurship & jobs

Srinagar, April 12, 2025 – Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary has reaffirmed the Jammu and Kashmir government’s commitment to boosting entrepreneurship and employment, emphasising the transformative potential of Mission YUVA. During a comprehensive review of the Labour and Employment Department on April 11, 2025, Surinder Choudhary highlighted the initiative’s ambitious goal of establishing 1.5 lakh nano enterprises across the Union Territory, a move aimed at empowering youth and strengthening the region’s economy.

Mission YUVA, a flagship program, seeks to promote self-employment and sustainable livelihoods by supporting young entrepreneurs in launching micro and nano businesses. Choudhary urged officials to accelerate efforts to achieve this target, stressing the importance of awareness camps to educate aspiring entrepreneurs about available resources and opportunities. “Our focus is on creating a vibrant ecosystem where youth can thrive as job creators, not just job seekers,” he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister also underscored the need for regular inspections to ensure worker welfare, calling for stricter enforcement of labor laws and enhanced workplace safety measures. “The dignity and well-being of our workers are non-negotiable. We must ensure fair wages, safe conditions, and access to social security,” Choudhary stated, directing the department to prioritize compliance across industries.

The review meeting addressed key challenges, including skill development and access to funding for startups. Choudhary advocated for stronger collaboration between the Labour and Employment Department and other agencies to streamline support for entrepreneurs. He also emphasized the role of digital platforms in connecting young innovators with markets and resources, aligning with the government’s vision of a self-reliant Jammu and Kashmir.

The announcement comes amid broader efforts to revitalise Jammu and Kashmir’s economy, including recent expansions in healthcare and education infrastructure.

As the government doubles down on its commitment to economic growth, Mission YUVA is poised to play a pivotal role in transforming Jammu and Kashmir into a hub of innovation and opportunity. With Choudhary’s call for action, the Labour and Employment Department is gearing up to turn this vision into reality, one nano enterprise at a time.
