Kishtwar, October 27,2025- Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, announced that a high-level aviation team will soon visit Kishtwar district to conduct a feasibility study for the proposed Kishtwar Airport project. The initiative is aimed at enhancing regional connectivity, tourism potential, and economic growth in the Chenab Valley region of Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking about the development, Dr. Jitendra Singh said that the Ministry of Civil Aviation has taken a proactive approach to strengthen air connectivity in remote and hilly regions under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme. The proposed airport will make travel and logistics easier for locals while opening new avenues for tourism and investment in Kishtwar and adjoining districts.
“A high-level aviation team is being deputed to Kishtwar to assess the technical feasibility and potential of the proposed airport site. Once operational, it will bring the region closer to mainstream India and boost socio-economic growth,” Dr. Singh stated.
The Kishtwar Airport proposal has been under active consideration as part of the government’s vision to bring air connectivity to every corner of Jammu and Kashmir. Currently, Kishtwar remains accessible primarily by road — routes that are often affected by landslides and weather disruptions during winter months.
Officials confirmed that the visiting team will comprise experts from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), civil aviation engineers, and topographical specialists, who will study terrain challenges, land availability, and safety parameters before submitting their report.
The airport project is expected to serve as a lifeline for Kishtwar, facilitating faster movement of goods, tourists, and emergency services. It will also benefit the nearby districts of Doda and Ramban, reducing travel time to Jammu and Srinagar.
Local residents and public representatives have welcomed the announcement, expressing optimism that the long-pending demand for an airport in Kishtwar will soon become a reality.
Dr. Jitendra Singh reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring balanced development across Jammu and Kashmir, emphasising that infrastructure projects like this will transform the Chenab Valley into a hub of connectivity, tourism, and opportunity.
