Srinagar, September 20, 2025 – In a groundbreaking achievement for Jammu and Kashmir’s burgeoning tech ecosystem, three young innovators from Delhi Public School (DPS) Srinagar have developed ‘Shafaat’, the valley’s first humanoid AI robot. Unveiled at the recent TechKnow 2025 event, this creation marks a significant milestone in school-level robotics, showcasing the potential of Kashmir’s youth to drive technological progress.
The robot, named Shafaat after its mentor Shafaat Majeed Lone, was built by students Hamaad, Nesaan, and Mohsin in the school’s ATAL Robotics Lab.
Capable of talking, learning, gesturing, and interacting with humans, Shafaat represents a rare feat for high school students, blending imagination with practical execution. During demonstrations, the robot introduced itself as a “friendly AI robot teacher” at DPS Srinagar, engaging in conversations and even walking onto the stage at the event’s closing ceremony.
TechKnow 2025, hosted by DPS Srinagar, brought together over 330 participants from more than 30 schools across Kashmir for hands-on workshops in AI, robotics, app development, and more.
The event culminated with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah presiding over the closing, where he praised the students’ creativity and the government’s commitment to fostering AI and innovation in education.
Shafaat’s debut stole the show, drawing applause for its ability to mimic human-like interactions, a testament to the region’s evolving tech landscape.”This is not just a robot; it’s a symbol of change and progress in Kashmir,” said one observer at the event. The project highlights how educational initiatives like the ATAL Robotics Lab are empowering students to tackle complex technologies, potentially inspiring a new generation of innovators in Jammu and Kashmir.
As Kashmir continues to integrate into India’s digital revolution, innovations like Shafaat underscore the shift from traditional challenges to tech-driven opportunities. The future, as demonstrated by these young minds, is indeed being built right here in the valley.
