Budgam, February 18, 2026 After a gap of nearly 10 months, the scenic tourist destination of Doodhpathri has finally reopened to visitors, drawing a warm welcome from locals, traders, and tourists alike. The reopening has rekindled economic hopes in the region, with tea stall owners, pony walas, and small traders expressing gratitude to the administration for restoring access to the picturesque meadow.
Nestled in the Budgam district, Doodhpathri—often referred to as the “Valley of Milk” for its milky-white streams and lush green pastures—has long been a favorite summer retreat for both domestic and outstation tourists. The prolonged closure had significantly impacted livelihoods dependent on tourism and seasonal business.
Boost to Local Economy
With the reopening, dozens of tea stalls have resumed operations, pony services are back in demand, and local vendors are once again catering to tourists exploring the sprawling grasslands.
“We were waiting eagerly for this day. Our livelihood depends entirely on the tourist season,” said a local tea stall owner. Pony walas echoed similar sentiments, thanking the LG administration for facilitating the reopening and ensuring safety measures.
Officials stated that necessary arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth and secure tourist experience, including better coordination between departments and enhanced on-ground monitoring.
Tourists Feel Safe & Happy
Visitors expressed happiness at being able to return to one of Kashmir’s most serene destinations. Families were seen enjoying picnics along the streams, while adventure enthusiasts took pony rides across the meadows.
“It feels safe and peaceful. We are glad Doodhpathri is open again,” said a tourist from Jammu.
Tourism Revival in J&K
The reopening of Doodhpathri is being viewed as part of a broader push to revive and strengthen the tourism sector in Jammu & Kashmir. With improved infrastructure, security, and administrative support, stakeholders hope for a record tourist footfall this season.
As the valley welcomes back visitors, optimism is high that Doodhpathri will once again emerge as a major contributor to J&K’s tourism-driven economy.
