Doda, October 8, 2025 – In a significant step towards combating tuberculosis in the region, #NikshayDiwas was marked with enthusiasm at the Tuberculosis Unit and Associated Hospital (AH), Government Medical College Doda. The event, aligned with the National TB Elimination Programme , focused on ensuring timely access to essential medicines for TB patients while raising community awareness about prevention strategies, contributing to the broader vision of #TBMuktBharat. Under the able guidance of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Doda, Sh. Harvinder Kumar, IAS , the program was spearheaded by Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Om Kumar and District Tuberculosis Officer (DTO) Dr. Raj Kumar. Block Medical Officer (BMO) Ghat, Dr. Abdul Gafoor, played a pivotal role in coordinating the on-ground activities.
Key Highlights of the Event
- Medicine Distribution: TB patients registered under the #NTEP received a two-month supply of free anti-TB drugs, emphasizing the government’s commitment to uninterrupted treatment and reducing patient dropout rates.
- Awareness Session: An interactive session was conducted to educate attendees on TB symptoms, transmission modes, stigma reduction, and preventive measures such as early screening, nutrition, and vaccination drives. Special emphasis was placed on high-risk groups, including those in remote hilly areas of Doda district.
- Community Engagement: The program saw participation from local health workers, patients’ families, and community leaders, fostering a collaborative approach to TB elimination.
This initiative is part of the monthly #NikshayDiwas observances mandated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, aimed at achieving India’s goal of becoming TB-free by 2025. In Doda, where hilly terrain and limited accessibility pose challenges, such localized efforts are crucial for bridging gaps in healthcare delivery.DC Doda, Sh. Harvinder Kumar, commended the health team’s dedication, stating, “Events like #NikshayDiwas not only provide vital medicines but also empower communities with knowledge to fight #TB effectively.” CMO Dr. Om Kumar highlighted the role of #NTEP in integrating TB care with routine health services, while DTO Dr. Raj Kumar urged residents to utilize free diagnostic facilities at GMC Doda.
