Pulwama, April 8, 2025 – A team of doctors at District Hospital Pulwama successfully performed a challenging emergency surgery , saving the life of a patient who arrived in critical condition. The patient, suffering from massive haemoperitoneum due to a ruptured ectopic pregnancy, was pulseless and in shock upon arrival, presenting a dire medical emergency that typically requires referral to a tertiary care facility. However, with time being of the essence, the team opted to operate on-site, a decision that proved life-saving.
The complex procedure was led by Senior Consultant Dr. M. Y. Tak and Senior Gynaecologist Dr. Nayeema, who acted swiftly to stabilize and treat the patient. The patient’s condition was critical, with approximately three and a half liters of blood drained from her abdomen during the surgery. To combat severe blood loss, five units of blood were transfused rapidly, a feat made possible by the hospital’s efficient logistics support, overseen by Medical Superintendent Dr. A. G. Dar.
“This was an uncommon and highly challenging case for a district hospital,” said a hospital spokesperson. “The patient’s survival hinged on immediate intervention, as transferring her to a tertiary care center in Srinagar was not feasible given her unstable condition.” The team’s expertise and quick decision-making turned a near-fatal situation into a success story, showcasing the capability of DH Pulwama to handle emergencies beyond its typical scope.
The patient’s family expressed profound gratitude for the dedication and skill of the medical team. “We cannot thank the doctors enough for their zeal and commitment. They saved a precious life when all hope seemed lost,” a family member shared.
This remarkable case highlights the critical role of skilled healthcare professionals and robust hospital logistics in managing life-threatening emergencies, even at the district level. The successful outcome has been widely praised, underscoring the importance of adaptability and teamwork in critical care.
