RAMBAN, JULY 30: In a determined effort to curb drug abuse and safeguard youth, District Magistrate Ramban, Mohammad Alyas Khan, today chaired a meeting of the District NCORD Committee and called for mission-mode efforts to make every panchayat in the district Nasha Mukt (drug-free).
The meeting, held in the DM’s office chambers, was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Varunjeet Singh Charak, Additional SP Mujeeb-Ur-Rehman, ACR Shokat Hayat Mattoo, ACP Mohammad Ashfaq, CMO Dr. Kamal Je Zadu, CEO Mukhtar Ahmad, SDMs, CAO, CHO, Tehsildars, Drugs Control Officer, and other officials, with several participating virtually.
DM Khan directed all departments to intensify awareness campaigns, particularly targeting schools, colleges, and other educational institutions to sensitize the younger generation about the grave dangers of drug addiction. He urged the ACD, ACP, and BDOs to ensure mass participation, especially from youth and community members, in these awareness drives to create a strong grassroots movement.
While reviewing enforcement actions, the DM emphasized the need for frequent joint inspections by various agencies to monitor and dismantle networks of drug trafficking. He directed officials to identify, track, and take strict action against drug peddlers and their sources of supply.
In a key directive, he asked the ADC to work in coordination with SDMs and SDPOs to ensure that every tehsil adopts a unified strategy aimed at achieving Nasha Mukt status for all panchayats. The police and administrative officers were also instructed to immediately destroy any cannabis or poppy plantations found in their areas.
On the health front, the DM took feedback from CMO Dr. Kamal Je Zadu regarding the status of de-addiction treatment in the district. He directed that regular counseling sessions, follow-ups, and medical support be provided to recovering patients to prevent relapse and encourage full rehabilitation.
The meeting underscored the district administration’s firm resolve to protect youth and society from the menace of drugs through a comprehensive and collaborative approach, involving both enforcement and community awareness.
