Shopian, September 14, 2025 – In a significant boost to youth empowerment and self-employment initiatives, the District Level Implementation Committee (DLIC) under Mission YUVA convened in Shopian today, approving all 261 applications presented for financial assistance and handholding support. Chaired by District Development Commissioner (DDC) Shopian, Shishir Gupta, the meeting underscored the government’s commitment to fostering innovation and economic self-reliance among the district’s young population.The session focused on reviewing applications verified by the State Bank of India Business Development Unit (SBDU), evaluating them rigorously on criteria such as eligibility, business viability, and the applicants’ socio-economic backgrounds. Mission YUVA, a flagship program aimed at nurturing youth entrepreneurship, seeks to channel the aspirations of young individuals into sustainable ventures, creating employment opportunities and reducing dependency on traditional job markets. The unanimous approval of all 261 cases marks a proactive step in saturating the district with entrepreneurial support.Addressing the committee, DDC Shishir Gupta highlighted the transformative potential of self-employment, urging all relevant departments to prioritize timely fund disbursement, stringent monitoring mechanisms, and comprehensive mentoring programs.
“Self-employment is the cornerstone of youth empowerment,” Gupta stated. “We must ensure that every supported venture not only takes root but thrives, contributing to the district’s economic fabric.”Gupta further advocated for intensified outreach efforts, including the organization of awareness camps and mobile registration drives, to extend Mission YUVA’s benefits to every eligible youth in Shopian. He described the initiative as more than a mere scheme: “Mission YUVA is not just a scheme; it is a movement to promote innovation, self-reliance, and employment generation.” This emphasis aligns with broader national goals of inclusive growth, particularly in rural and aspirational districts like Shopian.
The meeting saw active participation from key stakeholders, including Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADDC) Shopian, Dr. Nasir Ahmad Lone; General Manager District Industries Centre (DIC), Shurjeel Naikoo; Assistant Director Employment; Lead District Manager; Deputy District Manager NABARD; District Officer Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI); Career Counselling Officer and Employment Officer from the District Employment and Counselling Centre (DECC) Shopian; and Advance Manager from the Cluster Office of Jammu and Kashmir Bank (JKB).As Shopian advances these approved projects, the district anticipates a surge in micro-enterprises, from agri-based startups to service-oriented businesses, injecting vitality into the local economy. Mission YUVA’s success here could serve as a model for neighbouring districts, reinforcing the role of collaborative governance in youth-led development.
