REASI, NOVEMBER 30: In a bid to combat the growing drug menace, District Magistrate Vishesh Mahajan chaired a District-Level Narco Coordination Center (NCORD) meeting on Saturday. The meeting, which saw active participation from the Police, Health, Education, Social Welfare, and Transport Departments, focused on improving inter-departmental collaboration to intensify anti-drug initiatives across the district.
During the session, the DM emphasized the need for the police to ramp up anti-drug operations, urging them to identify and ensure the preventive detention of drug dealers. He also stressed the significant role that sports and education could play in fighting the drug crisis, suggesting that engaging sports figures as youth icons and organizing awareness sessions in schools could have a positive impact.
The DM further instructed educational institutions to take proactive measures, including installing CCTV cameras in vulnerable areas on school and college campuses and conducting regular anti-drug awareness sessions during morning assemblies.
Additionally, the Transport Department was directed to implement random drug testing for drivers to curb the transport of illegal substances. The District Magistrate also called for enhanced monitoring of criminal activities, particularly targeting bovine smugglers and thieves who are often linked to the drug trade.
In his concluding remarks, DM Mahajan urged all departments to work together in launching sustained public awareness campaigns, engaging local communities, and enforcing strict measures to eradicate the drug menace from the district.
