District administration Poonch celebrates 10th anniversary of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme

POONCH, JANUARY 23: The District Administration Poonch marked a significant milestone with a vibrant celebration to honour the 10th anniversary of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme, a national initiative focused on supporting girls and promoting gender equality. The event was held at the Auditorium Hall of Government Degree College, Poonch.

Organised by the District Social Welfare Department under the leadership of District Social Welfare Officer, Wakeel Ahmed Bhat, the celebration was graced by Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal as the Chief Guest. The gathering included notable figures such as the District Education Planning Officer, Chief Medical Officer, AD FCS & CA, College Vice Principal, as well as officers, officials, and students from various educational institutions.

The event, held under the banner of “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao,” sought to address and challenge deep-rooted biases against girls, focusing on critical issues such as female foeticide, underage marriages, and gender discrimination. Its aim was to raise awareness and foster an environment conducive to the overall empowerment and development of girls in society.

The ceremony commenced with the lighting of a lamp by Chief Guest Vikas Kundal, followed by the recital of the National Anthem. The cultural program featured an array of performances, including skits and dances by students, all revolving around the theme of BBBP.

In his address, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the progress made in the areas of women’s education, empowerment, and improvements in child sex ratios over the past decade. He urged citizens to actively engage in efforts to safeguard and uplift the girl child, stressing the continued importance of the program’s objectives.

District Social Welfare Officer Wakeel Ahmed Bhat also delivered a speech, emphasizing the mission of the BBBP scheme to combat gender bias and enhance welfare services for girls. The event concluded with speeches from various guests and students, all reinforcing the core message of protecting and empowering the girl child.
