Srinagar, March 15, 2025- The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM) Jammu, in collaboration with the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME), launched a seven-day Advanced Entrepreneurship Skill Development Program (A-ESDP) today at its Srinagar Branch Laboratory. The initiative, co-sponsored by CSIR’s Integrated Skill Initiative, aims to empower farmers and youth by fostering innovation and self-reliance through training in high-value sectors such as medicinal and aromatic plants, mushroom cultivation, honey production, and crop diversification.

The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, Director of CSIR-IIIM Jammu, who highlighted the growing culture of agri-startups and entrepreneurship in the region. Addressing attendees, Dr. Ahmed emphasized the program’s alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) and the goal of doubling farmers’ income. “This initiative is a step toward bridging scientific research with grassroots entrepreneurship, empowering participants to create sustainable livelihoods,” he stated.

Chief Guest Dr. O.P. Mr. Surinder Singh, Deputy General Manager of NABARD, attended as the Guest of Honour and outlined the financial and technical support available for startups. He highlighted NABARD’s Agri-Clinic and Agri-Business Centre (ACABC) scheme, urging participants to tap into these resources to scale their ventures. “NABARD is committed to nurturing innovative agri-startups and ensuring their success in competitive markets,” Singh affirmed.

Dr. Nasir Ul Rasheed, Nodal Scientist for Skill Development and workshop coordinator, welcomed the 24 participants from across India, outlining the week-long curriculum. “Over the next seven days, experts will provide hands-on training and insights into high-potential sectors, equipping attendees with skills to reduce dependency on traditional farming and create new opportunities,” he explained.
