SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 12: The Directorate of Animal Husbandry Kashmir launched the Foot and Mouth Disease-Control Programme (FMD-CP) under the National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) in a function held at the Disease Investigation Laboratory Srinagar. The program was officially inaugurated by Dr. Parvinder Singh Sudan, Director of Animal Husbandry Kashmir, with the participation of the Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Srinagar, Deputy Director (Poultry), and other district officials.
In his address, Dr. Parvinder Singh Sudan emphasized the importance of ensuring the timely completion of the vaccination drive, urging all field staff to ensure that no eligible animal is left unvaccinated. He stressed the need for 100% data uploading on the National Digital Livestock Mission (NDLM) Portal on a daily basis to maintain accurate records.
Dr. Sudan provided valuable technical guidance to the field workers, stressing the correct vaccination techniques and the critical importance of maintaining the cold chain at all stages—from the lab to the farm. He also highlighted the significance of adhering to WHO guidelines under the One Health concept, ensuring a holistic approach to animal and public health.
The vaccination teams in Srinagar were flagged off in a ceremonial event, marking the start of a simultaneous vaccination drive across all districts in the valley. The vaccination campaign will be conducted in a campaign mode, with a focus on reaching every corner of the region to curb the spread of FMD and other zoonotic diseases.
Dr. Sudan underscored the growing importance of vaccination as a preventive measure, especially given the increasing risks posed by zoonotic diseases, which are transmissible to humans. The launch of this mass vaccination program is a significant step in safeguarding both animal and public health, particularly in light of emerging pathogens and new variants.
