Bandipora, April 13, 2025: The Department of Floriculture Bandipora organized an interaction programme on Saturday, April 12, at Nishat Park, aimed at empowering flower growers and boosting the region’s floriculture sector. The event focused on leveraging the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture scheme to enhance flower production, promote sustainable practices, and improve market linkages for local growers.
The programme brought together horticulture experts, district officials, and flower cultivators to discuss technical advancements and financial support available under the MIDH scheme. Participants were briefed on modern cut flower production techniques, ornamental nursery development, and strategies to access national and international markets. The initiative emphasized equipping growers with resources to adopt high-yield varieties and eco-friendly cultivation methods.
A senior official from the Department of Floriculture highlighted the region’s potential to become a floriculture hub, given Bandipora’s favorable climate and soil conditions. “Through MIDH, we aim to provide subsidies, training, and infrastructure support to ensure growers can compete in larger markets,” the official stated. The programme also addressed challenges like post-harvest losses and the need for better cold storage facilities.
Growers expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, noting that such platforms foster knowledge sharing and open avenues for economic growth. The event is part of a broader effort across districts like Budgam, Pulwama, Kulgam, and Kupwara to strengthen Jammu and Kashmir’s floriculture industry under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS).
