KISHTWAR, August 23 – Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will visit Chisoti village in Kishtwar on Sunday to review ongoing search and rescue operations and meet the people affected by the devastating cloudburst.
The natural calamity struck Chisoti, the last motorable village on the route to the Machail Mata temple, on August 14. The death toll has risen to 65, including three CISF personnel and one Special Police Officer (SPO) of the J&K Police. Over 100 people were injured, while 32 remain missing, officials said.
“They will be reviewing the search operation carried out by multiple agencies for the past nine days and also interact with the affected people,” an official told PTI.
Several senior leaders and administrative officials have already visited the area to take stock of the situation and oversee relief measures. The visit by the Defence Minister and the Lieutenant Governor underscores the government’s commitment to extend full support to the people of Kishtwar during this tragedy.
