DC Vikas Kundal inspects civic amenities in Poonch market, addresses community concerns

Poonch, March 21, 2025 – Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal today conducted an extensive tour of Poonch Market and its surroundings to assess the state of civic amenities, focusing on lighting, public toilets, and ongoing construction projects. The visit underscored the administration’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and addressing public needs in this bustling commercial hub.

Accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Tahir Mustafa Malik, Tehsildar Haveli, police officers, ARTO, Legal Metrology Officer, EO Municipality, Executive Engineers of JPDCL, Jal Shakti, PWD , Food Safety Commissioner, and other officials, Kundal engaged directly with shopkeepers and representatives of the Beopar Mandal. The local business community expressed gratitude for the on-ground assessment, seizing the opportunity to voice pressing concerns. Among their demands were the replacement of outdated electric wires, the construction of a toilet complex at Parade Park, modifications to the ashes site of renowned novelist Krishan Chander, and the installation of CCTV cameras behind Poonch Fort to enhance security. Additional issues of public importance were also raised, reflecting the community’s aspirations for improved facilities.

The Deputy Commissioner’s tour extended to Krishan Chander Park and Poonch Fort, where he evaluated essential services such as lighting, water supply, and cleanliness. The effectiveness of the drainage system was closely scrutinized, with Kundal stressing the need for robust municipal infrastructure to support the market’s daily operations. He directed the Executive Engineer of PWD to expedite footpath construction to improve public accessibility and instructed the installation of mirrors at Nakha Wali Chowk to enhance traffic safety, addressing a key concern for commuters and traders alike.

Responding to the shopkeepers’ pleas, Kundal assured swift action on all legitimate demands, including the installation of new electric cable wires throughout Poonch Market. “We are committed to ensuring that the market not only thrives commercially but also offers a safe and convenient environment for all,” he stated, emphasizing the administration’s proactive approach.
