DC Srinagar visits IMHANS: Interacts with victims of substance abuse in SMHS Psychiatry Department; Skill Development and Rehabilitation Centre for affected youth to come up shortly

SRINAGAR JUNE 03: The Deputy Commissioner(DC) Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad here on Saturday undertook a visit to Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences(IMHANS) Govt Psychiatric Diseases Hospital, Kathi Darwaza to finalise the Action plan for establishment of Addiction Treatment Facility(ATF).
The DC also inspected the Drug De-Addiction Centre at SMHS Hospital to oversee the facilities being provided to the victims of Drug Abuse.
At IMHANS, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the recently approved 10-bedded IPD, Addiction Treatment Facility(ATF) Centre and finalized the Action plan for establishment of the ATF.
On the occasion, the DC asked the concerned to take up necessary works for facade improvement, renovation, landscaping and repairs of the proposed ATF centre in the Hospital in order to make it functional at the earliest.
The DC also took stock of the measures taken for additional infrastructure development and upgradation works for establishment of Skill Development & Rehabilitation Centre for Youth affected from Drug Abuse for their reintegration in society at the Hospital. He was informed that Skill Development & Rehabilitation Centre for Youth affected from Drug Abuse is being established on the State of Art pattern and will be equipped with Library, Computer Lab, Interactive Touch Penal, Portable Mic System, other electronic gadgets etc.
The DC said the aim of the proposed “Skill Development & Rehabilitation Centre for Youth affected from Drug Abuse” is to impart requisite trainings relate to different market oriented trades to the affected youth to enable them to get maximum skilling opportunities and enhanced job opportunities/placement so that they earn their livelihood with dignity and honour.
On the occasion, the DC was also given first hand appraisal about the routine functioning of Hospital and treatment facilities being extended to the patients.
Later, the DC also visited the Drug De-Addiction Centre at SMHS Hospital that acts as an integrated centre where affected youth are being treated, counselled and enabled to mainstream again in their lives.
On the occasion, the DC interacted with several inmates admitted in the Drug De-Addiction Centres and sought their views about the treatment facilities and counselling being given to them. The patients apprised the DC that they are being given satisfactory treatment at the centres.
The DC also emphasised upon the Doctors and other paramedical staff to take the job as a noble task and treat the affected youth with patience and dedication. He said youth are our precious asset and every step would be taken to use their energies in a positive way. He said by availing the benefits through different self-employment schemes they can earn livelihood with dignity & honour and will also help in their reintegration in society and prevent any relapses in them in future.
During the visit, the DC was accompanied by Chief Medical Officer, Dr Jameel, Tehsildar Headquarter, Imtiyaz Amin Naik, Incharge Drug De-Addiction Centre, GMC Srinagar, Dr Yasir Rather, Medical Superintendent, Govt Psychiatric Hospital, Dr Aijaz, Nodal Officer, Dr Arshid, Assistant Director Planning, Mohammad Amin and other concerned.
