Srinagar, July 15, 2025 – Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, conducted a comprehensive review of the ongoing construction of Panchayat Ghars across the district, emphasizing the need for timely completion to enhance rural governance and facilitate local communities. The meeting, held at the DC Office Complex, focused on assessing progress under the Revamped Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA) and ensuring the projects meet deadlines to benefit the rural population.During the review, DC Labroo directed executing agencies to accelerate construction work on Panchayat Ghars, stressing inter-departmental coordination to resolve any bottlenecks and ensure quality infrastructure development. “Panchayat Ghars are vital for strengthening grassroots governance and delivering essential services to rural areas. Timely completion is non-negotiable to empower local communities,” Labroo stated, urging officers to adhere to the 2023–24 target of completing at least 443 Panchayat Ghars by March 2026, as outlined by the Director of Panchayati Raj, Jammu and Kashmir.
The DC also emphasized the importance of geo-tagging all Panchayat Ghars using the ‘Meri Panchayat’ mobile app to ensure transparency and real-time monitoring, aligning with the directives from the recent RGSA review meeting. He instructed officials to prioritize dispute-free land for construction and expedite decisions to commence work where land is available, ensuring no delays in project execution.
The meeting saw participation from key stakeholders, including Assistant Commissioners Panchayat (ACP), engineers, and other concerned officers, who provided updates on the status of ongoing works. Labroo underscored the need for seamless coordination among departments to address challenges and ensure that the infrastructure supports the development of Model Women-Friendly Gram Panchayats and Panchayat Learning Centres (PLCs).This initiative aligns with broader efforts to bolster rural infrastructure in Srinagar, complementing other development projects like the solarisation of government buildings and health facility upgrades overseen by Labroo in recent weeks. The timely completion of Panchayat Ghars is expected to enhance local governance, facilitate community engagement, and provide accessible administrative services to rural residents.
