Srinagar, April 09, 2025 – Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar, chaired a Block Diwas programme at Zainapora in Shopian district, engaging directly with the local community to address issues of public importance. The event, held on Wednesday, provided a platform for residents to voice their concerns, ranging from infrastructure needs to essential services, while reinforcing the administration’s commitment to grassroots governance.
During the interactive session, the DC listened attentively to grievances related to water supply, electricity, road connectivity, and healthcare facilities. Residents of Zainapora and surrounding areas highlighted the need for improved amenities and timely resolution of long-pending issues. Responding to the concerns, DC Dar assured the public of swift action, directing officials from relevant departments to prioritize and resolve the raised matters effectively.
Emphasising sustainable development, the DC urged the people of Zainapora to take advantage of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, a central government scheme promoting rooftop solar installations. “This initiative not only provides up to 300 units of free electricity per month but also empowers households to contribute to a cleaner environment,” he said. He encouraged residents to register for the scheme, noting its potential to reduce electricity costs and enhance energy independence.
DC Dar also stressed the importance of water conservation, calling upon the community to adopt water harvesting strategies and protect local water sources. “Water is a precious resource, and with changing climate patterns, we must act collectively to preserve it,” he remarked. He advocated for the construction of rainwater harvesting structures and the safeguarding of springs and streams in the region, aligning these efforts with broader environmental goals.
The Block Diwas at Zainapora saw participation from district officers, local representatives, and a large number of residents, reflecting the administration’s outreach to rural areas. The DC reiterated that such programmes are vital for bridging the gap between the government and the people, ensuring that public welfare remains at the forefront of administrative efforts.
The event concluded with the DC instructing officials to prepare a detailed action plan based on the issues raised, with a focus on time-bound solutions. He also encouraged the public to stay engaged with government initiatives like PM Surya Ghar and water conservation drives, emphasising their role in building a sustainable future for Shopian.
