DC reviews progress of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban in Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, December 5, 2024 – Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai chaired a high-level meeting to review the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) scheme in Udhampur district. The meeting, aimed at assessing the progress of the housing scheme.

The Deputy Commissioner conducted an in-depth review of the scheme’s implementation in Udhampur’s Municipal Council and two Municipal Committees. She emphasised the need for strict adherence to project timelines, urging all officers to prioritise financial mobilization for pending cases and ensure the timely completion of housing units.

To facilitate smoother execution and address beneficiaries concerns, the DC instructed the concerned departments to set up a dedicated help desk within their offices. This help desk will serve as a point of contact for beneficiaries seeking assistance or clarifications regarding the scheme.

In a bid to ensure comprehensive coverage, the meeting also decided to conduct a thorough survey to identify all eligible beneficiaries under PMAY-U. The officers were tasked with organizing Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaigns and awareness programs in each ward to inform the public about the benefits and procedures of the scheme.

Additionally, Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) were directed to personally monitor the progress of the scheme and hold weekly review meetings to ensure accountability and track the status of implementation.

The Deputy Commissioner underscored the importance of adhering to the PMAY-Urban guidelines and ensuring that only genuinely eligible beneficiaries are included in the scheme. She reiterated the government’s commitment to achieving the goal of “Housing for All” under PMAY-U, stressing the need for effective and transparent execution of the program.

In conclusion, the Deputy Commissioner issued comprehensive directions to all concerned officers to ensure the smooth execution of the scheme and to meet the ambitious housing targets for the district. The successful implementation of PMAY-U, she stressed, is vital for providing affordable housing to the urban poor and realising the vision of a well-developed Udhampur.
