In the wake of heavy snowfall that transformed Pulwama district into a picturesque yet challenging landscape, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Basharat Qayoom, took proactive measures to appraise the situation and ensure the restoration of essential services. Demonstrating leadership and commitment to public welfare, the DC conducted an extensive tour of the district, prioritizing accessibility, healthcare, and uninterrupted essential services for the residents. During his visit, DC Qayoom inspected the Primary Health Centre Pinglena and PHC Kakpora to assess the quality of patient care and ensure the seamless functioning of medical services despite the adverse weather conditions. At both centres, he interacted with the medical staff and patients, emphasising the importance of round-the-clock availability of healthcare personnel. His direct engagement not only boosted the morale of the healthcare workers but also reassured patients that their well-being remained a priority for the administration. The DC’s commitment extended beyond healthcare. He also toured the Power Development Department workshop in Pulwama, inspecting various facilities and reviewing the availability of essential materials to address power-related issues. In light of the snowfall-induced disruptions, the DC visited the Gas Turbine Power Station in Pampore to oversee operations and ensure the restoration of electricity, a critical service for the community. Officials reported that approximately 70 percent of roads in the district had been cleared, and electricity was largely restored. However, recognising the need for comprehensive action, DC Qayoom directed the concerned officers to expedite the clearance of remaining roads to ensure no resident faces inconvenience. The DC’s hands-on approach was not limited to instructions but reflected a genuine concern for the people. By personally visiting several wards, inspecting facilities, and engaging with both officials and residents, he demonstrated an empathetic and accountable leadership style. Snow clearance teams worked tirelessly under his guidance, and the administration’s focus remained on delivering quick and effective solutions to mitigate the impact of the snowfall. DC Qayoom’s visit highlighted the importance of responsive governance, especially during adverse weather conditions. His tour served not only to address immediate concerns but also to instil confidence among the people of Pulwama. It underscored the need for collaboration between administrative authorities and the community to overcome challenges posed by nature. In Pulwama, the snowfall brought with it not just the beauty of winter but also the test of resilience and efficient governance. Through his efforts, DC Basharat Qayoom ensured that the district’s recovery from the disruption was swift, and essential services were restored with minimal delay. His actions stand as a testament to the impact of dedicated leadership in times of need, fostering a sense of solidarity and assurance among the people of Pulwama.
