Kupwara, October 7, 2025: Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Shrikant Suse (IAS), chaired a meeting of the District Level Committee under Narco Coordination (NCORD) to assess the various initiatives implemented to combat drug abuse in the district. The session involved detailed discussions on agenda items, with officers presenting comprehensive reports on their departmental efforts and responsibilities. Attendees included SSP Kupwara Gulam Jeelani, ADC Kupwara Gulzar Ahmad, ACR, CMO, CEO, DFO, and other key officials, while SSP Handwara and SDM Lolab joined virtually alongside all Tehsildars. Suse urged all participants to intensify efforts for eradicating the drug menace, particularly by organizing targeted awareness camps for vulnerable groups like transport workers, street vendors, and youth.
He stressed the crucial role of parents in child protection, advocating for monthly Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) in government and private schools to address drug abuse alongside other concerns. The meeting also pushed for declaring “Nasha Mukt Panchayat” to foster competition among panchayats toward a drug-free Kupwara. It was noted that all medical shops in the district are equipped with CCTV cameras, and 95% have adopted computerized billing systems to enhance monitoring. This review underscores ongoing multi-departmental commitment to enforcement, awareness, treatment, and rehabilitation against the rising threat of substance abuse.
