DC holds special outreach camp for nomadic community in Palwara-Daryal, Rajouri

Rajouri, April 10, 2025 – In a landmark effort to address the challenges faced by the nomadic population, Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma convened a one-day Special Outreach Camp today at Village Palwara-Daryal in Block Budhal Old, Rajouri. The initiative underscored the district administration’s commitment to inclusive governance by bringing government services directly to the doorstep of this often underserved community.

The outreach program was designed to understand and resolve the grievances of the nomadic population, particularly those related to their seasonal migration. Deputy Commissioner Sharma inspected stalls established by various departments, including Health, Sheep Husbandry, Labour, and Animal Husbandry, as well as Self Help Groups (SHGs). During the camp, he engaged with community members, encouraging them to take advantage of government schemes aimed at improving their livelihoods and welfare.

A diverse array of concerns was raised by the nomadic community, including demands for road connectivity from Gala to Talyani, electricity connections, camping stations en route to Kashmir, proper functioning of tribal schools, release of pending MGNREGA payments, renovation of school buildings, a road to Danna Top, appointment of mobile school teachers, provision of passenger sheds, tents, and solar lights, and a waiver of electricity charges during migration periods. DC Sharma listened attentively to each issue, resolving several grievances on the spot, which was met with widespread appreciation from the attendees.

Expressing gratitude, community members hailed the initiative as a vital step toward addressing their long-standing concerns. “We are thankful to the Deputy Commissioner for organizing this camp and listening to us. It feels like the administration has truly come to us,” one participant remarked.

In a notable directive, DC Sharma instructed the Assistant Executive Engineer to accept applications regarding the suspension of electricity bills during the migration period and ensure appropriate action. Additionally, he directed the Chief Education Officer (CEO) to inspect the mobile school in the area and submit a detailed report on its operational status, signalling a proactive approach to improving educational access for nomadic children.

The Special Outreach Camp marks a significant stride toward inclusive development, reaffirming the Rajouri district administration’s dedication to the welfare of its nomadic and tribal populations. By redressing grievances on the spot and promoting government schemes, the initiative bridges the gap between the administration and these communities, fostering trust and empowerment.
